If you are a new blogger, your biggest challenge will be to get more views on your blog. Even if you are an established blogger, you might be struggling with getting more views.
Many bloggers in Nepal want to know how they can increase traffic to their blogs.
The most common thing bloggers do is share their blogs on social media. That is the easiest and the most common way to get views on your blog.
But most bloggers do not know that there are other effective ways to get more views besides sharing on social media. With proper strategies, their blogs can land on the first page of a Google search.
In this article, we would like to share some simple ways to increase traffic to your blog.
Tips to Increase Your Blog Traffic
1. Proper Title and Description
The first thing people see is the title of your blog post. You should use catchy and relevant titles. The title can determine whether people will click on it or not.
A good title is also a useful SEO strategy (we will discuss more on SEO later). It is better if you do some keyword research so that you can add the keywords to your title as well.
The description of the post should also contain these keywords. To add a separate description for your post, you can use the Yoast SEO plugin if you are using WordPress. There is a section called “Meta description” that allows you to write a separate description for every post.
Make sure to use catchy titles that people would want to read. Research shows that people are more likely to read list posts. Also, make sure to use numbers and interesting facts on your title if possible.
2. Keyword Research
Keywords are basically the main words that you will be using on your blog posts. These words will help you rank better on search engines.
When people search for something on Google, they do it by typing a few words on the search bar. Those are keywords. You need to find the most popular keywords that people are searching for. Use them on your blog post so that when people search for them again, they will find your post.
You can use a lot of different strategies to research keywords. The easiest and basic is to search for words on Google search itself.
You can start typing words on Google. It will show you the most common searches relevant to what you have searched for. Here’s an example:
Another simple strategy is to look for related searches on Google. Like this:
You can use these keywords and add them to your blog post.
If you want to go into more depth, there are a lot of paid tools you can use for keyword research. The most popular and best one is ahrefs.com.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is one of the most common and effective strategies to increase website traffic. It is the process of using the keywords properly on your blog posts to rank them on search engines.
There are two types of SEO — on-page and off-page.
a) On-Page SEO
We have already discussed the SEO benefits of having a title and description. They are a part of on-page SEO.
Use proper heading formats on your blog post (h1, h2, h3, h4). Also, make sure to include some keywords in them as well.
Your article should be of high-quality. Use proper formatting with headings, paragraphs, bullet points, etc. Write more short paragraphs instead of a few long ones.
Use better permalinks. A permalink is basically the URL of your blog post. Add keywords to them as well.
b) Off-Page SEO
Off-page SEO helps you to increase the popularity of your website by getting links from other websites.
To use off-page SEO, you need to write good content. People should gain value from your content so that they will share it.
Use social media platforms to share your blog posts (more on this later).
Guest-posting is also a good strategy for off-page SEO. Write on other blogs and use backlinks to your blog. Some blogs might not allow backlinks. So make sure you post on only those blogs that allow backlinks to get more views.
4. Write Long Articles
Write long articles on your blog.
Short articles can be simple and easy to understand for the audience. But long in-depth articles will have a high chance of getting views and they will rank better on search engines.
Aim for at least 2,000 words.
According to research, long articles are more likely to be shared than short articles.
5. Share on Social Media
This is the most common strategy used by all bloggers. Sharing your blog on social media is easy. But it might not be giving you as much result as you wanted.
It is because there is a strategic way to post on social media. There are a lot of different social media platforms that you can share on. But they are not the same. For instance, you are likely to reach more people when you share on Facebook than on Twitter. Especially in Nepal, people use Facebook more than any other social media platform.
You can learn how to strategically post on social media from this article.
Some of the most popular social media platforms are Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Instagram, Pinterest, Quora, and Reddit.
You can also create images and infographics relevant to your blog. They must be eye-catching so that people would want to click on them. But do not use click-bait strategies. Make relevant and valuable images. You can share such images on Pinterest and Instagram.
Pinterest is one of the best platforms that can increase the traffic to your blog to a great extent. You need to create pins and link them to your site.
Quora is another site that most bloggers in Nepal are unaware of. Quora is basically a question-and-answer website. Search for relevant questions that people are asking about. Answer their questions and link your answer to your blog. But make sure to provide valuable answers. Don’t just provide the link.
Remember to use relevant hashtags when sharing your post on Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin. You can also share a post multiple times (but after a long span of time).
6. Build an Email List
We have already discussed the importance of building an email list in our previous article.
Just to revise it, we will discuss it here in brief.
You need to collect emails from your readers. By doing so, you can send weekly newsletters, updates, articles, or anything else to them. (But don’t spam them.)
This strategy can help you change a one-time visitor to a recurring visitor. There can be continuous traffic to your blog if you have an email list.
You need to start building an email list as soon as possible.
7. Use Internal Links
When you are writing an article that is relevant to a previous article that you wrote, link it.
For example, here is an article we wrote about the 4 skills you need to start a successful blog in Nepal.
Internal links allow your visitors to read more articles on your blog. They help to increase views on old articles. They can also help your website rank better on Google.
8. Use Strategic Plugins
If you are using WordPress, you can use plugins that allow readers to easily share your posts.
Use floating and fixed share buttons linking to different social media platforms. With this, readers can easily click and share your post on their social media.
We use the one called Sassy Social Share on this blog.
You can use other strategic plugins that allow readers to easily tweet, pin, and share your posts on relevant social platforms. Find them and experiment with them.
These were some of the easy ways to get traffic to your blog.
There are obviously a lot more ways you can use as well. Paid advertisement, Facebook groups, commenting on other blogs, optimizing website speed, using images, starting a YouTube channel, etc. to name a few.
Keep learning and experimenting with different ways to gain traffic. We cannot be 100% certain that a particular strategy will be effective for your blog.
Getting traffic to your blog depends on a lot of different factors. Every blog is different. So there cannot be a single strategy that will be applicable for all.
The strategies that we discussed are easy and can be used by anyone. These are also the most proven strategies for increasing traffic to your blog.
Use them and let us know in the comment below if they work for your blog.
We hope that this article was helpful to the bloggers of Nepal.
